The Exit Label is promoting the work of established and new composers
and performers
of contemporary music in the U.K.
The label has been releasing a series of critically acclaimed new
recordings by the pianist and composer Mark Springer. Springer first
came to prominence with the group Rip Rig & Panic - an innovative
and revolutionary band - whose music still defies categorization,
a group which also featured the singer Neneh Cherry and the legendary
jazz trumpeter with the Ornette Coleman Quartet, Don Cherry.
Rip Rig & Panic recorded several albums and singles for Virgin
Records and when the group disbanded Springer recorded 3 more CD's
for Virgin as a solo artist. All of which continued the Rip Rig
& Panic tradition of breaking musical boundaries and exploring
virtuosic piano technique and orchestral textures.
With the new Exit releases Springer, both as a solo artist and writing
for ensemble, has created works as diverse as Nature, Music, Food the
Stars & the Planets (EXIT 004) which
includes Clive Deamer's taught and moody drumming (the percussionist
known for his work with Portishead and Roni Size's Reprezent) to Capture (Exit 002) which features vocals and electronica through to the
current CD's String Quartets and Solo Situation.
With these CD's Springer further consolidates his position as one of the U.K's most exciting and innovative artists in the contemporary
music scene. Using the CD as a total creative space Exit has included
in the CD artwork Mark Springer's own oil paintings and the work of
designers and photographers like Juergen Teller.
